Everything we eat affects us mentally and physically. If you would like to understand your weight, energy level and mood, take a close look at your daily food intake. Take, for instance, the choice between eating a banana or some french fries. The choice that you make and how you feel afterwards is one small example of how the foods we eat control our lives. Most cancers have been proven to be diet-related. Let's go back and compare that banana to the french fry. Both are "fast food" and really easy to eat. While the banana needs no preparation, the french fry must be fried (usually in hydrogenated oil). The banana has zero fat, but the fries have 10 grams of fat per small serving. The banana is high in nutrients (vitamin C, B-6 and potassium), but any vitamins in the fries are destroyed in cooking. While bananas have no sodium and are great food for children and infants, the fries are high in sodium and make our children fat. While the pectin in the banana slows down absorption after a meal (which is great for a diabetic), the fries slow the whole body down! The banana enhances our health, but the fries clog our arteries and promote heart disease. Are you willing to look at your daily intake of food today? If you are, then go for the banana and slide by the fries ... your heart will thank you.
