Chances are at some point in your life you have made a New Year’s resolution that you weren’t able to keep. Maybe you weren’t ready to change? Or it was unrealistic? If you have set the same goal for the past five years and fail each year--what will make this time different? If you make a resolution to take better care of yourself and live a healthy lifestyle you will have a much better year if your resolution sticks.
Approximately 90% of people fall off of their New Year’s resolution goal within a month of starting it. This can be due to trying to change everything at once, or starting with a habit that is too big. Instead of creating New Year’s Resolutions, why not break them down into “New Day’s” Resolutions? This allows you to make small changes each day that will benefit your health in big ways! Every day think of something you would like to do or change to help you become a healthier and happier version of you, and then DO IT for just one day! You get to do something else tomorrow, so no pressure! Here are some “DO IT” tips for your new days in 2016 (trust me--your body will thank you for them!):
- DO take small steps every day to maintain your health
- DO make small improvements for yourself
- DO be realistic about what you can manage time-wise
- DO drink a lot of water every day
- DO add lemon to your drinks (packed with nutrients and cleanses your system!)
- DO fill up your plate with fruits and vegetables
- DO dilute your wine with light juice (reduces calories and contains less alcohol!)
- DO find a time for sleep
- DO eat in moderation (better to have a little of everything!)
- DO create a plan to manage stress (write a realistic to do list every morning)
- DO be thankful
- DO anticipate roadblocks and reward yourself for successes
