Hi, I’m Carol Martin. I’ve been a massage therapist for over 25 years. As you know, massage is well known for reducing stress and promoting relaxation. However, a growing body of research has also shown that massage therapy is effective for relieving and managing a significant health problem: chronic and acute pain. Massage therapy has been suggested as one means to manage pain without the use of prescription medications.
How does massage relieve pain?
- Massage works from the outside to target the primary, root cause.
- It focuses on the entire body system and its relationship to soft tissue - not solely on the site of pain.
Recent clinical research has shown that massage:
- Is more effective for chronic back pain than other complementary therapies.
- Promotes relaxation and alleviates the perception of pain and anxiety in cancer patients.
- Reduces pain and muscle spasms in patients who have undergone heart bypass surgery.
- Reduces post-traumatic headaches better than cold pack treatments.
- Stimulates the brain to produce endorphins.
And don’t forget all these other great benefits of massage:
- Relieves Mental and Physical Stress
- Strengthens Immune System
- Fosters Peace of Mind
- Promotes a Relaxed State of Mental Awareness
- Improves Blood Circulation
- Helps Healing of Strained Muscles and Sprained Ligaments (Reduces Pain and Swelling)
Hope to see you soon in the office!
